Federal Bureau of Investigation

Gentlemen:
Please be so kind as to advise us whether you have any information
regarding the Scientology Center, Albany; located at 899 Mercer Street,
Albany, New York. Their slogan is "Where the Able Meet".
A young man came to our Classified Advertising counter and volunteered
an advertisement which reads as follows: "I will talk to anyone for you
about anything. 8-1125." The name of the individual who placed the ad is
[BLACKED OUT] Enclosed please find a leaflet left by the advertiser.
We were wondering if this organization, if that it is what it is, is
possibly a subsersive group.
Cordially yours,
[SIGNATURE BLACKED OUT]

[ADDRESS BLOCK BLACKED OUT]
Dear [BLACKED OUT]
I have received your letter with enclosure of September 25, 1958.
While I would like to be of service, I regret to advise that this Bureau
has never investigated the Scientology Center in Albany, New York, and I
am unable to be of assistance to you.
Sincerely yours,
[stamped] J. Edgar Hoover

NOTE: Correspondent is not identifiable in Bufiles and we have not
investigated the organization named in his letter. His enclosure
indicates that the Albany Scientology Center is a branch of the Hubbard
Dianetic Research Foundation founded by L. Ron Hubbard with headquarters
in the Washington area. Bufiles contain considerable information
regarding Hubbard who is considered [BLACKED OUT] and in a divorce
action filed against him his wife alleged that he was hopelessly insane.
We have had cordial relations with the [BLACKED OUT]
